About the Authors

Gabe Promes

This was written when Gabe Promes was in kindergarten. The story started when he saw a playground ball on the side of the street.  With the help of his grandma Laura they created an amusing story about the adventures of James, the ball.

Laura Woudstra

When Laura started first grade, she struggled with words her classmates were reading.  Her teacher, Mrs. Burke, spent extra time helping her until she was actually reading better than some of the other students. From then on, reading became a way to explore new places, times, and adventures. Laura still loves books and instilled the love of reading in her own children. After more than 40 years in corporate America, Laura took a position as a special education associate at a local elementary school. She understands reading doesn’t always come easily. Laura hopes to help the kids she works with learn to read, and that all children use books to explore new places, times, and adventures.
